Who Needs to Register a drone?

ACCORDING TO THE CIVAL AVIATION AUTHORITY (CAA), YOU MUST REGISTER AS A DRONE OPERATOR IF:

- Your drone weighs over 250g

- OR it has a camera, and you fly it outside your private property

Flying rules (part 101 overview)

These are the standard rules that most drone pilots in NZ follow:

Drones must be under 25kg


Always fly within visual line of sight


Max 120 meters (400 feet)


You need permission to fly over people or private property


Not allowed without part 102 approval

ADVANCED FLYING (PART 102)

Flying drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) at night, or over crowds? You'll need a (PART 102 OPERATOR CERTIFICATE) issued by the CAA
